Directed by Tawny Chapman, LEVERAGE DANCE seeks to provide a professional-level experience for the maturing and art-minded pre-professional dancer. Comprised of dancers between the ages of 16 and 22 with a strong technical foundation, this group focuses on bringing the art of movement to the forefront through concert dance with a strong point of view. Through diverse repertory and an intense training program, the dancers are challenged to find a deeper kinetic understanding of the body while further developing their creativity and depth as artists.

Dancers attend a weekly hour-long company technique class followed by a ninety-minute repertory rehearsal (Tuition: $65/month) while maintaining concurrent enrollment in a minimum of three other technique classes at a local college, high school or at Impact Dance Center. This structure allows the dancers the flexibility to customize their training schedule to meet their individual needs and goals.

Performance opportunities include studio showcases and dance and community festivals in Orange and Los Angeles counties. The season culminates with an annual concert hosted by the company called The Junction, showcasing company repertory in collaboration with other up-and-coming young dancers and choreographers from the surrounding area.

The company runs on an academic year. Company membership is by biannual audition. Interested dancers should have proof of enrollment at a local high school, community college and/or university, a strong background in dance technique and a sense of responsibility, dedication and a passion for dance. Placement is at the discretion of the director.

Founded in 2009, previous season performances have included studio concerts, benefit events, Studio A Dance!'s DanceSpot, Pasadena Dance Festival, MixMatch Dance Festival, Dance Discovery Foundation's Collision:Dance, Backhausdance's Platform and the company's very own self-produced annual repertory concert The Junction. Dancers have been afforded the opportunity to work with professional choreographers Jennifer Backhaus (Backhausdance), Omar Olivas (Diavolo, Backhausdance), Zak Ryan Schlegel (Backhausdance, Axiom), Jennifer Huffman (Diavolo, LehrerDance), Blythe Barton (San Diego Dance Theater, Malashock Dance), and Rachel Pace (Backhausdance) in addition to Artistic Director Tawny Chapman. Previous company members have concurrently attended Chapman University, California State University Long Beach, Orange Coast College, Cypress College, Cal Poly Pomona, Orange County High School of the Arts and Los Alamitos High School. Former members have gone on to attend Boston Conservatory, UNLV, SUNY Purchase and LINES Ballet/Dominican University of California, while others have achieved success in the professional world performing with Holland America, Disney Cruise Lines and Disneyland Resorts.
